So if you are an artist that loves the Lord, do you feel your art is inspired by the Holy Spirit, or that it is just a natural gifting you possess that it is your responsibility to use for God’s glory like everything else we have in life?

Do you feel you worship through your art?
Does other people’s art help you to worship?

Share your art with us here too please 🙂

      Hello Tara,

I’m growing in my practice and knowledge of artwork. In my journey with God, I do feel I was led to worship with the use of art, often like a curator.

I remember not long ago, I watched a talk on TV in which ‘The Storm on the Sea of Galilee’ by Rembrandt was used to teach.

    • For years after I became Christian until very recently I always felt guilty doing art – like it was a frivolous passtime no use to anyone except to glorify the artist (me) – which I suppose it can be and often is. For instance it’s almost impossible to perform a rock song without a sense of rebelliousness regardless of the words – it’s the spirit behind the melodies / beat etc (I play music). So struggled with art and actually went out to do a ‘normal’ job rather than pursue art as a career as I felt this was more noble (don’t laugh) – until I heard a guy explain a year ago how humans are the ONLY creature capable of art and able to use this peculiar gift to glorify god (glaringly obvious but I just somehow missed the point of it as the world’s art is so good that it’s hard to see how some of it does not help us and is capable of drawing us away from God) and that art can be the greatest tribute to god if done with that spirit. I guess all the incredible artistry of the cathedrals might be an example. So my answer now is definitely yes – all art should be done to glorify God – in story, poetry, abstract or whatever form it takes. Art can bypass words reason and truth and go straight into the subconscious – so it would also make sense that Satan would use it as his most useful tool which i think we see.

    • Yes great human artwork always inspires me now to think of what God is capable of and His artistry in the creation – when human art is sublime – His must be infinitely greater. We can rearrange the elements but He can make them

From my point of view, it does help to be like cosmopolitan in experience of the different kinds of art, I trust it helps when encountering different kinds of people. I have some music production experience and I have met some professionals who have worked for famous artists, how that came about is a long story, which I’ll keep to myself for now. Of course God can catapult people from small places to bigger areas to achieve what He wants. I’m not sure what my future with art will be exactly, I have other priorities at the moment; but I’m glad to have that store of experience, which I’m sure God has something in mind for, He always does.

I found this article interesting, and some verses have come to mind prominently.

“Is Kanye West promoting Jesus or exploiting Jesus?”

      https://www.christianpost.com/voice/is-kanye-west-promoting-jesus-or-exploiting-jesus.html

John 10:33 “We are not stoning you for any good work,” they replied, “but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God.”

34 Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your Law, ‘I have said you are “gods”’? 35 If he called them ‘gods,’ to whom the word of God came—and Scripture cannot be set aside— 36 what about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, ‘I am God’s Son’?

Philippians 1:17 The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains. 18 But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.
